Silestone Video Wins Golden Lion Award at Cannes Lions International Film Festival
Cosentino, a leading distributor of quartz surfaces and other natural stones, recently received a Golden Lion Award at the Cannes International Festival of Creativity for its video “Silestone, Above Everything Else.” The creator of the advertisement, Spanish digital animator Alex Román, attended the Cannes Festival Award ceremony and accepted the award, which was honored in the Film Craft category…”We are very happy to have been awarded such a recognition,” says Damian Granados, head of image and branding of the Cosentino Group. “This award does not only mean that the Silestone brand has consolidated its strength on a worldwide level, but also shows that Silestone is at the forefront of creativity and innovation in advertising. Alex Román has shown a talent that is out of this world.”…The Cannes Lion International Festival of Creativity Awards are the most prestigious international advertising awards, with more than 24,000 participants. The festival is the world’s only truly global meeting place for publicists and professionals in the communications industry.
“After being trained in traditional painting at a few academies, I discovered this other world called CG. After school, I made the move to Madrid and began working at a visual effects company. That stint did not last too long due to the lack of demand for visual effects in the Spanish market at the time…It was then that I switched into the VIZ (architectural visualization) business. I have been working for several companies since. After that, I took a sabbatical year for to work on an “already-built work” visualization series, which will be stitched together into a short animated piece…After working in VIZ for years, I realized that there was a huge aesthetic difference between most clients’ commercial demands and photography of already-built structures. The lack of respect for the architecture itself in some “pure” commercial illustration was very frustrating to me. (Well, this is just my opinion, of course.)…I decided to start a personal journey: to experiment with a more cinematographic and/or photographic oriented point of view of some of my favorites architects’ masterpieces, hence, the “TheThird&TheSeventh” project…
